New ISP Publication2nd Enlarged Edition "East Of Kinabalu" Datuk Leslie Davidson, one of the giants of the oil palm industry in the second half of the twentieth century is best known for his leading role in introducing to South East Asia the pollinating weevil. This has saved the industry millions of dollars annually in assisted pollination. He was also responsible in the 1960’s for bringing oil palm to Sabah on a commercial scale, opening up Tungud Estate for Unilever on what was then the remote east coast. This volume relates his pioneering experiences in that development. Davidson’s account contains episodes which are by turns hilarious, deeply moving, and important from both historical and literary points of view. They also attest to his leadership in creating out of a disparate range of races and religions, a stable and harmonious estate community. The book vividly captures the atmosphere of Sabah before and immediately after it became part of Malaysia. Professional Courses and Awards
Award of Professional QualificationsSince 1928, the ISP has conducted the Technical Education Scheme which leads to internationally recognised qualifications in plantation management and practice. Under the scheme, the ISP has established five grades of professional qualification which may be obtained by examination:
Professional Diplomas of The ISP
An avenue has been created for candidates who pass the CPM examination to further their qualifications. Holders of CPM certificates can qualify for 'Studentship' under the TES of ISP. Once a candidate has been admitted to the 'Studentship' he/she to appear will qualify to appear for the LISP examinations.
To obtain a 'Studentship', candidates should contact the nearest ISP Branch Chairman, or the Headqurters for the ncessary application forms and information on procedures to apply for 'Studentship'.
The TES committee of the ISP will continue to co-ordinate and manage the awards of the LISP and AISP Diplomas for members.
Master of Science in Plantation Management
This degree is designed to meet the demand for skilled manpower at senior levels of the plantation industry in tropical countries. The programme is ideal for mid-career executives in the plantation industry who aspire for senior management position. It is also aimed at exchanging the knowledge and skills of graduates seeking a career in the plantation industry.
The degree will be earned through course work (as opposed to a research thesis). The minimum time required to complete the programme is 16 months. The programme is structured and run so that it will be accessible to part-time as well as full time students.
The programme is the result of collaboration between Universiti Putra Malaysia (Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Economics & Management) and the Incorporated Society of Planters. Each party is recognised for its expertise in its field. The combined talents of the two organisations will ensure the high quality of the programme.
