CALL FOR POSTER PAPERS

In conjunction with the Society’s Centenary celebration in 2019, the Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP) is organizing its 9th International Planters Conference 2019 (IPC 2019) to be held from 15 to 17 July 2019, at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The theme of the Conference is: “Plantation Industry: Charting the Future - Transforming People; Policies; Processes”.

The ISP feels that it is timely to address the transformation of the planting industry as it is confronted with multidimensional challenges that need urgent action and long-term vision. Major transformations leveraging scientific knowledge and policy changes are imperative along the entire supply chain of the plantation sector to chart a sustainable future.

The Organising Committee has identified some key factors and invited individuals to present papers to cover the areas selected (1 keynote address, 2 plenary lectures, and 7 support papers). The Conference programme will include a poster session to provide a platform to planters, scientists, researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students to share their research findings and observations in order to obtain feedback through interaction with international participants.

The poster papers can relate to any plantation related crops such as oil palm, rubber, cocoa, coconut, pepper etc. covering any of the following main topics:

  1. i.Human Resource

-          Manpower – skilled, semi-skilled, unskilled; Training.

  1. ii.Policies

-          Management, sustainability, environmental, employment.

  1. iii.Processes

-          New planting and replanting procedures, processing – both upstream and downstream and value addition.

  1. iv.Research and Development

-          Agronomy, nutrition, soil, water management, plant protection, etc.

The Conference Organising Committee invites authors to submit their extended summary in English of not less than 500 words before 31 January 2019 to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . A select committee will review the poster papers and notification of acceptance will be forwarded to successful authors. The successful authors will then have to submit a “full paper” by 30 April 2019 following the guidelines which will be given.

Each poster will be on display throughout the period of the Conference. Authors presenting poster papers will be required to be in attendance at their poster stand during the time allotted (about 35 minutes). Allocated time will be during the Conference tea breaks. Thereafter, the authors will be invited to join the Q&A session to answer any queries from participants with respect to the subject matter presented.

All papers accepted for poster presentation will be published in full in the proceedings.

Poster template

The size of the poster display is 91.4 cm (3 ft. - W) x 121.9 cm (4 ft. - H). The presentations are an integral part of the Conference, therefore due care must be exercised to ensure high-quality presentation.

-          Contents of a poster presentation.

The poster will usually have a title (72 point size), name, affiliation, contact information of the presenter(s) besides the introduction, results, discussion, and conclusion.

-          The introduction should be brief but provide sufficient information to understand the purpose of the study.

-          Discussion and results can be limited to a few key findings to validate the conclusions

-          Section headings should be at least 36 point size.

The layout of a poster presentation

-          A poster presentation will only have a good impact if it is well designed.

-          All letterings of titles should be large enough to catch a reader’s attention. Letterings of the text should be large enough to be easily read from a distance of 1.5 m. Use bulleted lists where possible instead of paragraphs. Use italics instead of underlining, or black lettering instead of a light colored rectangle. Text should be concise enough to be read in less than 10 minutes.

-          There should be a limited number of items in a table. Graphic illustrations such as figures, concise tables, diagrams, photographs, maps should be clearly labeled with a brief title.

-          There should be simple links between tables, illustrations, and text.

-          Use tack-and-stick reusable adhesive, mounting tabs or tape to attach materials to the boards provided.

Paper for publication

Authors are required to submit a full paper for publication in the conference proceedings.

Conference Registration Fee

Successful authors have to attend all the sessions of the Conference. However, they will be charged only a discounted registration fee of RM500.00.

Best Poster Award

Poster awards will be given to papers, which display high quality in presenting new ideas and concepts in line with the theme of the conference.

The best-selected posters will be rewarded as follows:

1st prize – RM3,000

2nd prize – RM2,000

3rd prize – RM1,000
